The Missoula Independent has hired veteran Montana newspaperman Randy Rickman as Advertising Director. Rickman will lead a team of five account representatives responsible for selling the Independent, Montana Headwall magazine, and an array of specialty publications, as well as online advertising services and event-driven promotional opportunities.

A Butte, Montana native, Rickman served most recently as the publisher of the daily Helena Independent-Record and the Montana Standard. Prior to that, his long, successful newspaper and direct marketing career took him through southern California, Washington, and South Dakota, New Mexico, Iowa and Wisconsin. He has served on the board of the Montana Newspaper Association and various non-profit, economic development and civic boards.

“Randy’s zeal for shoe-leather sales work and his experience as an organizational leader make him a terrific fit for our shop,” said Independent owner Matt Gibson. “He projects genuine enthusiasm and professionalism that I’m eager to see in action. I think we can accomplish great things together.”

Rickman said he’s excited by the opportunity to live in Missoula and work with Independent Publisher Lynne Foland and the advertising crew. ” It’s an exciting opportunity to work in an environment that fosters innovative solutions, starting with the client. And the relationship between the Indy and our audience is like no other. Whether it’s hiking, cycling, running, music, theater, museums, etc, the Missoula Independent connects with an audience’s passion-in-life and thats a whole new level of connection. I’m excited about the things I will learn and the things I will share in this new role.”
